3-8-2010 Blarg:  I like to imagine the cats slap high five when I'm not looking.  In reality they probably just nap or lick themselves.

So after a long drought there are suddenly lots of new albums coming out in March that I want to purchase.  I lucked out and was at a local music store that broke the street date, and I was able to buy these albums a few days early.  Here are my impressions.

Ted Leo and the Pharmacists- The Brutalist Bricks.  I'm a humongous Ted Leo fan so it's nice to hear them go back to more of a simplistic live sound for this album.  I thought the last two Ted albums were very good, but had a little too much studio intervention in them.

Rogue Wave- Permalight.  The reviews for this album complained Rogue Wave had changed their sound too much and become too techno and dancey.  What?  No.  It's another solid Rogue Wave album.  There are some drum machine sounds but it's not C and C Music Factory.

Broken Bells- Broken Bells.  This is a collaboration between James Mercer from The Shins and Danger Mouse.  Do I have to say more?  It is awesome.  It's like having another Shins album.  I hope people don't complain this sounds just like James Mercer from The Shins and Danger Mouse did an album together, and it doesn't sound like anything new.  When Chris Cornel and the members from Rage Against the Machine formed Audioslave people complained it sounded like Chris Cornel with the members of Rage Against the Machine.  But guess what.  That's exactly what happened and it sounded awesome.  Anyway.  Buy Broken Bells.  It sounds like James Mercer and Danger Mouse.  (I think they should have called the band Danger Mercer)

Gorillaz- Plastic Beach.  Their last album, Demon Days, was one of my favorites from a few years ago.  This one has a little bit more hip-hop in it, but that's not necessarily a bad thing.  I haven't gotten a chance to listen to it all the way through yet, but so far I dig it.

And that is my music wrap up for March 2010.  Sorry Vampire Weekend.  Your album was released in January.  Bet you're kicking yourself now.
